A glimpse into the past
Explore the photographic journey of a New Zealand soldier during World War Two

This website is best viewed on a computer rather than a mobile device.

In December 1941, Noel Reid Cameron, a young man from Blenheim, sailed from Wellington, New Zealand as part of the Second
New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He was based in the Middle East for the next few years, before being evacuated to New Zealand on the medical ship Oranje in 1944.

This website has been created to preserve the photographs that Noel captured on his journey from New Zealand to Australia, into Sri Lanka, to Egypt, and finally, throughout the Middle East (the ‘Holy Land’).

You can use the menu bar above to navigate the website. Under the menu item named ‘sites of interest’, you can access Noel’s photographs (and other collateral collected during World War Two.

As well as containing Noel's photographs, this website contains information related to the New Zealand war effort during World War Two.

Wherever possible, I have sought to provide additional information on the places and events that Noel participated in, to provide additional context. You can use the links on the right-hand side, or the toolbar above, to search through the information on this site.
